Alphabetical Index SearchThis is the dictionary data in which the keyword searched for appears. Click on the alphabetical index to navigate to the keyword pertaining to the search.
Search by Reference CodeSearch the documents by entering reference code. You can directly access to specific documents you have already identified.
Cross SearchComprehensively search Asia historical documents of JACAR, NAJ Digital Archive, and databases of other institutions.
JACAR Dictionary SearchImprove results by using keywords (i.e., terms in use when the documents were originally created) when searching the JACAR Dictionary.

4. Search by Category Screen

Select a word for your search using the category list’s dictionary data (place name, personal name, events, etc.).

If you click a category, detailed information about it will display.

Click terms for detailed information to display.

Click the "Search using this keyword" button to run a search with the displayed term.

Reference materials	Reference materials for the term
Basic Japanese word	Basic word in Japanese for the term
Basic English word	Basic word in English for the term
Synonym	Synonyms of the term. If there are multiple synonyms, they are separated by a "/" full-pitch character.
Related words	Related words for the term. If there are multiple related words, they are separated by a "/" full-pitch character.
Alternative spelling	Alternative spellings of the term. If there are multiple alternative spellings, they are separated by a "/" full-pitch character.

Click within a superordinate category to display detailed information about the selected category.
