Explanation: 明治初年の祭政機構。明治政府が主導する王政復古を実現すべく、祭政一致・神道国教化を進めるため、1868年1月に神祇事務科が設置されたことに始まる。その後、同年閏4月の政体書において、神祇官が設置された。当初は行政諸官と同列であったが、1869年7月の職員令によって行政機構を司る太政官の上位に位置づけられた。1871年8月、神祇省に改組。
