Horvat, Dmitrii Leonidovich

Explanation
1859-1937. Dmitry Local manager of the Chinese Eastern Railway that Russia operated in Manchuria. Born to a wealthy family of hereditary nobles in Ukraine under Imperial Russia. Graduated from Nikolaev Academy of Engineering in 1885, and then worked on laying railroads in the Caucasus, Central Asia, and in the Maritime Province. In 1903, sent to Harbin to be the first manager of the Chinese Eastern Railway. Worked to unify all railway operations until resigning in 1918. After the Russian Revolution, in July 1918 established an anti-Bolshevik government in the small Maritime Province city of Grodekovo along the Trans-Siberia Railroad. Regime eventually came under the umbrella of the Omsk-based Provisional Siberian Government, and Horvat himself was forced out by the Chinese army to Harbin. Went on to become a leader of White Russians based in Beijing until his passing there in 1937.
