Explanation: 1857（安政4）年生。江戸出身。父は幕臣吉益正雄。1871年開拓使留学生として岩倉使節団に随行して渡米。1872年眼病を患い帰国。東京麻布の女子小学校・築地の海岸女学校で英語教師を務めた。1886年女子英学教授所を設立。同年死去。
