Kawamura Sumiyoshi

Explanation
Born 1836 (Tenpo 7). From Satsuma Domain. Final title was count, final rank was admiral. Son of Kawamura Yojuro, a caster of artillery pieces. 1852 (Kaei 5): "Internal" page. Later fought in the Boshin War as commander of 4th Rifle Brigade. 1869: Army magistrate (Hyobu daijo). 1870: Navy Commissioner and Director, Imperial Naval Academy. 1872: Junior Vice Minister (shofu), Navy. 1874: Senior Vice Minister (taifu), Navy. 1877: Served on Satsuma Expeditionary Force's General Staff during the Seinan War (Satsuma Rebellion). 1878: Councillor, and concurrently Minister (Lord) of the Navy. Worked to expand the Imperial Japanese Navy by encouraging the building of warships and establishing naval districts. 1888: Advisor, Imperial Court, and Advisor, Privy Council. Given responsibility for raising Prince Michi (Emperor Hirohito). 1904: Passed away.
