Nakajima Nagamoto

Explanation
Born 1844 (Kōka 1). From Saga Domain. Also known as Nakajima Hidegorō. Father was Saga retainer Nakajima Nagatō Studied at the Saga domain school Kōdōkan, and later at the domain's Dutch studies school. 1865 (Keiō 1): Engaged in Western studies in Nagasaki under Guido Verbeck. 1867 (Keiō 3): Appointed instructor (kyōkan) at Chienkan (school of Western studies in Yokohama). 1869: Concurrent appointments as "middle professor" (chūjokyō) at the Bureau of Education (aka "the University"); Director, Chūryō; and Director, Dairyō. 1870: Official, Bureau of Education. Subsequently, Deputy Junior Secretary at same. 1871: Deputy Junior Secretary, Ministry of Education. Subsequently, 7th grade official, Ministry of Education, and official at Southern College of the University (Daigaku Nankō, a school for Western learning). Later, joined the Iwakura Mission as an aide to the councilor from the Ministry of Education. Observed education conditions in Europe and North America. 1873: After return to Japan, appointed Chief, Schools Section, and Chief, Reports Section. 1874: Founding Commissioner (Goyōgakari), Women's Normal School (Joshi Shihan Gakkō). 1876: Magistrate, Ministry of Education. 1877: Chief Secretary, Ministry of Education. Later, Assistant Chief, Reports Section. 1878: Concurrent appointment as Chief, Accounts Section. 1880: Concurrent appointments as Chief, Reports Bureau, and Director, Naikisho. 1881: Director, Naikikyoku (Secretariat). Later, Chief Secretary, Ministry of Education, and Director, Accounting Bureau. 1885: Director, Reports Bureau, and Chief, Bureau of Education branch school. 1886: President, Third Higher Middle School. 1887: Series of posts including Secretary, Ministry of Education; Chief, Records Section; Inspector (Torishirabe-iin), Igakukō (Medical School); and Councilor, Ministry of Education. 1888: Councilor, Genrō-in (Chamber of Elders). 1890: Bestowed court title of Kinkeinoma-shikō. 1891: Member by imperial appointment, House of Peers. 1922: Passed away.
