Explanation
1892-1962. Formal name was Luang Wichitwathakan. Having entered temple life around the age of 10, he did not receive a formal high school education. However, he studied English, French, and the law on his own, and began working at the Foreign Ministry in 1918. Worked at the Thai embassies in France and the United Kingdom, and held a succession of ministry posts including deputy foreign minister and director general of its Department of Fine Arts. Amid the years of the Pacific War, appointed the Phibun regime's foreign minister in 1942, and also served as Thailand's ambassador plenipotentiary to Japan. Arrested as a suspected war criminal following Japan's defeat, but with Phibun's return to power held such posts as minister of finance and minister of economic affairs. Also held important posts in the Sarit Thanarat regime that came to power after Phibun's downfall. Died in March 1962 following an illness.
