Embraced the ideal of revolution, and installed as president of the Vietnam Restoration Organization. Escaped in 1906 from Vietnam-then a French colony-and took exile in Japan. Initially enrolled in Tokyo Shinbu military academy, but withdrew due to illness. In 1908, enrolled at Waseda University under the alias Li Canh Thanh. In October 1909, under the terms of its agreement with France, the Japanese government issued an order expelling all Vietnamese students studying in the country. He fled to China, and thereafter moved around Thailand and Europe. Reentered Japan in May 1915, and operated under the name Lam Thuan Duc. Reorganized the Vietnam Restoration Organization in February 1939, relaunching it as the League for the Restoration of Vietnam. However, his sought-after revolution never came to pass, and he died in Tokyo on April 6, 1951.
