Explanation: 1940（昭和15）年9月30日に公布された「総力戦研究所官制」に基づき、内閣総理大臣の管理下に設置され、国家総力戦に関する基本的調査・研究、および官吏その他の国家総力戦に関する教育訓練を管掌した。その設置の背景には陸軍の強い意志があったが、近代戦は軍事面に加え、思想・政略・経済等の各分野にわたる総力戦であるとの認識により、陸軍ではなく内閣総理大臣の下に設置されることとなった。1945（昭和20）年3月に廃止。
