- In 1926, collecting materials to write "Showa Zaiseishi (The Financial History of the Showa Period)" started in parallel with editing "Meiji Taisho Zaiseishi (The Financial History from the Meiji to Taisho Period).". Administrative documents which offices of origin saw were less needed for a while were collected for this purpose. Several university graduates were employed to organize these materials from about 1933. Whenever a certain amount of materials were collected, they were compiled into a volume of "the Showa Zaiseishi Shiryo (Records of the Financial History of the Showa Era Period),"which was classified according to age and subjects and bound up in a Japanese style with a table of contents attached to each separate volume. By 1940, 8 volumes were compiled in this way. Materials collected during the wartime and early postwar periods were compiled into Volume 9, bound up in a western style.The materials compiled into the first eight volumes of "Showa Zaiseishi Shiryo (Records of the Financial History of the Showa Period)"were created or received by bureaus and departments in under the Ministry of Finance during the time after the Great Kanto earthquake of 1923 and before 1938. There are eight volumes according to the time of collection, and classified in 38 categories as follows: State ceremonies; financial administration; annual account; tax; customs duty; trade; national treasury system; currency; government bonds; local finance; lifting of the gold embargo; foreign exchange; deposits; finance; banking; insurance; national property; government buildings management and unified government procurement; state monopolies; administration; regulations for government organizations; the Diet; foreign diplomacy; the economy; agriculture, forestry and fisheries; mining and manufactual industies; businesses; Tohoku development; industrial associations; transport; colonization; the society; earthquake disaster; China; Manchuria; religion; military affairs; and the miscellaneous. Volume 9 comprises materials collected from 1926 until the end of the World War II, according to the same classifications as that for the previous volumes.
